Words fail me

Considering the well publicised upset football fans have caused by mimicking monkeys aimed at black players - I fail to see how on Earth this idiot could not see just how offensive his post was?

Perhaps I live a secluded life but I would have no idea what it meant. To be honest I still don't get it.

even knowing she is mixed race I looked at the picture and still did not see what was being said.
I see it as a monkey with clothes on, nothing more, by that I don't get the intent.

Danny Baker’s not stupid and he’s a keen follower of football, he’s got enough books in his name about it.

Therefore, you would expect him to be aware of racist terrace chants of “monkey”, “bananas” etc and the possible conations that a tweet involving a monkey could have.

Now put it in the context of Megan’s mixed race, highlighted by her mother being in some of the photos, it was an incredibly bad choice of photo and I struggle to see how Danny, an experienced media profesional, could have thought otherwise.

I’m somewhat conflicted but after some considerable thought I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, he’s paid a high price in losing his job and hopefully other celebrities will think twice before posting “funny” stuff.

Sadly his initial apology where he tried to make light of it is indicative of the modern world where everything is demanded now, now, now…his later apologies seem more heart felt, though that could be me with my slightly rose tinted specs on.

I agree entirely, as someone that is in the public eye they should know better and think three times over before posting.

I was surprised to hear he actually works for the bbc. Blast from the past seeing his name, I think I last heard of him about 15 years ago.
I thought he'd retired or something.
