The camera is a Canon 700D.
I cant remember the tripod but I bought it from a dedicated independent camera shop.
I will see what it is and tell you later.

I will post a picture later too.

I heard from a friend that if it is the mirror making things blurry you can disable it?? I need to see how to do that, if it's true!

you can lock the mirror up using func 5 but you will need to read the manual to use this function as there is a sequence that you need to go through to take the pic.

Normally first press of shutter release lifts the mirror, the next press opens the shutter itself. I normally allow at least a second between the first and second press.

Without seeing the images I am suspecting the tripod is somehow involved. Mirror slap etc is harder to see in a longish exposure .
Keep the tripod as least extended as possible. Did the tripod cost less than £50 or £60?

Thanks guys.
Yes, the tripod cost less than £60, I cant remember exactly how much it was though... Seems quite sturdy though although is very light weight.

I would ideally need to see the image (it could be dirt on the lens or sensor , revealing itself with a small aperture as an alternative) . but I am willing to guess your tripod has an aluminium alloy composite legs with plastic joints and head? If so for long shutter these will struggle for long exposures with a DSLR and lens. A common issue with these is the head moving very slowly downwards, and vibration being picked up through the legs.

If your lens has Image stabilization - Vibration Compensation - or whatever your particular manufacturer chooses to call it, turn it off when using a tripod.

These anti shake mechanisms can cause shake when the camera is firmly held.

Being a canon camera I guess the camera will have no in body Vibration Compensation so no need to worry about that.

If you have no Vibration Compensation on your lens ignore this post

That's a great point, I forgot about. If shooting longer than a second , switch it off. It will introduce shake.

The lens is stabilised.
I had no idea this would introduce shake! I will turn it off and see what happens!!

As for the tripod, you are spot on. Sounds like it's not a very good one for this kind of work.
