Default Doris' Day Out

'Doris' my 1948 A40 Devon enjoys a special day out, as transport for a friends wedding. In the last 22 years she has been used for several friends weddings -as well as my own!

What a lovely machine. Did you restore it yourself or did you buy it in that condition. I hope to get myself another classic in the not too distant future. Missed a really nice A35 a few weeks back as was too slow off the mark. I'll sort myself out at some stage.

Thanks for you comments Peter.

When I bought the car a few things needed doing, but since then bodywork was completely stripped, repaired and re sprayed in 2000. The engine was rebuilt in 2014, and front brakes completely renewed as well.

Lots of other jobs have been done over the last 22 years - headlamps, chrome, dynamo, starter motor, gearbox, all reconditioned. The rear doors will need a repair soon. The interior is as it was - and is now a bit scruffy -but original.

Les

Thanks for the reply. The joys of old cars they're like the Forth Bridge start at one end and work to the other and then back to where you started. There's a nice looking Austin Somerset locally in pale grey but you don't see many about at shows and runs. A guy I know has six Morris Minors and a 1936 Austin 10 and thats all he drives. Never had a modern car in his life. My only real classic in recent years was this1971 Saab 96. Like a fool I sold it last year when I had money waved in my face. Wasn't my best move.
