He appeared and Stayed

Every time I look at Jeff's feline photographs I'm reminded of the one and only cat that we had. My wife called him Timmy, and he was as mad as a hatter.

She found him underneath the garden shed in the early 1970s in a very poor state, and with an injured front paw. He was extremely nervous and looked like he had been ill used, but she lured him into the house with a trail of pieces of cheese. The vet said to bring him down to the surgery, but we couldn't get near him, so he made a home visit instead. The cat was a neutered male, in very poor condition, and with an infected cat bite on his paw. The vet asked if we wanted him put down? That was a no, and after a few antibiotic injections the infected paw cleared up. He put on weight and was quite a beautiful animal, though for the first year he was still extremely nervous. He became part of the family and brought a lot of joy into our lives with his antics. He loved the arm of the sofa, and could sleep there all day.

He would occasionally leave a dead mouse, or bird, at the kitchen door, but one day Joan opened the door and there was a huge dead rat! She nearly freaked, but he sat there looking so proud.

He was with us for nine years. One day we could see he had a problem with his mouth and the vet said he had an abscess on an upper tooth. He was going to pull the tooth, but decided to try an antibiotic first. At first it seemed to work, but Timmy became paralysed down one side. The infection had got into his brain, and he had to be put down. My wife was so upset that she vowed we would never have another furry pet.

The next year we saw a painting in an art exhibition in the New Mexico State Fair. Although short haired, the cat reminded us so much of the tired old man that we bought it.

Never been a cat lover, had a dog as a pet for 7yr after my mum passed away and the little fella had nowhere to live. After 7yr he died in my arms one night and now lives down the bottom of the garden

Around 3 months later a young stray cat regularly wandered down the drive and the wife put a few scraps out for it. Big mistake! This then becomes a regular occurrence and the cat turns up expecting to be fed

. I was very firm with the wife and the cat was never allowed to come into the house.
One day a young lad from down the street knocks on the door and asked if we fed the stray black and white cat. Wife said yes we do and the lad explained that the cat was down the street having been run over by a van and he thought it was dead. Wife shot out of the house and I followed to see a quite distressing sight of a cat laid on the verge, struggling to breath, unconscious and a excided dog barking at it.
There was nothing to be done for the cat that we could see other than stop it from being tormented by the dogs in it's final hours. We wrapped it in a quilt and brought it inside so it could pass away in as much comfort as was possible.
Wife cleaned it up as best she could and tried to feed and water it with a syringe.
The cat lasted for around 36 hours on the sofa wrapped in a blanket. At which point it woke up, got off the sofa and sat in the corner of the room!
That was three year ago....
Still wont leave.

What a lovely end to what could have been a very sad story. He does look very comfortable in his new home.

I was never a cat person and grew up with dogs, I looked after my brothers kitten for a few days while he was away and then had my girlfriends ex best friends cat for a while as well. We decided we wanted a cat but never got one, then we split and I had my own flat and couldn't settle by myself due to being used to having the dog around me. Ended up with the oldest cat and now have 2 and back with the girlfriend as well lol, they're house cats but I was sat with the front door open and this was them being nosey and wouldn't try get out because I was sat on the step lol, the ginger is Oscar and he's 2 and a bit and the other one is Olly and he's nearly 3.
