New printers come with smaller capacity cartridges then replacement ones

Oh yeah, undoubtedly! But a new printer with ink for £35 or a set of inks for £110? you can get 2 printers for less than the ink. I just find that both odd and incredibly wasteful. I suppose it is the consumables where manufacturers make their money.

Many thanks for all your advice. I think my problem is ,when installing the printer three months ago I clicked on the "update software" button which I have been told stops you using compatibles. When I bought the printer from PC World I bought a three warranty, that says if anything goes wrong, they will replace the printer immediately, has anyone done this. Thanks again, John.

i have a epson WF- 3530 and i use capatible inks from

cartridgediscount.co.uk

the link below is the inks i use for my printer, and they work perfectly, the printer see's them as genuine and everything works, even the ink monitor, hope this helps

oh, and i have had my printer for 2 years and have installed all updates too

It is ridiculous & wasteful I agree.
You don't actually get full cartridges with a new printer which is the reason why printers are so cheap to buy in the first place (in comparison with the price they used to be).
I just don't buy genuine ink cartridges after the 'starter' cartridges have run out.
Before I buy any printer, I check the price of replacement inks first.
