Default Tailgate spring-assisted opener?

I've seen the ill-fated saloon boot spring assisters which warped the mounting points, but I can't see anything on fitting them to a Tourer tailgate? I'm thinking of something like this.

Anyone done one or know of someone who has, whether successfully or not? Thanks.

Dougie.

Hi Dougie.
If you are going to try the above i would make sure you strengthen the inside of the tailgate where the lifts fit to the body, other wise the extra pressure may weaken the poor spot welds.

They have known to be torn out over time and is a week spot.

For sure. If they were bad spots on the saloons, they were never going to be better on the tourers.

Have you ever come across anyone having done it on a tourer?

Dougie.

Why would you want to they will rip the hinges out of the body work, a decent pair of struts will lift the tail gate up with no problem.

Well they won't rip the hinges out the bodywork if I address that issue which is partially why I've put this out there. I have a decent new pair of OEM struts which I fitted two weeks ago. They don't lift the tail gate up but obviously provide the assistance required for normal manual lifting. I'm talking about spring-assisted opening, not human-assisted opening.

As to why I'd want to, it's because reasons.

I would think that if you reduce the effort to lift the tailgate you will increase the effort required to close it?
