Default Egr and MAF?

Our recently purchased 75 tourer 131cdti has at some point in its past had the egr blanked off with a kit.

It's a stainless steel kit fitted, with the egr exhaust pipe removed and a blanking plate fitted at the rear of the engine. And the one of the two vacuum? Type pipes a blue one has been plugged off.
The stainless steel section that bolts to the inlet.manifold has no ports or anything on it like the original.

Question I have is, the MAF is unplugged, not sure why, I have no idea if the car has been remapped at present time. I do however have a good confirmed working second hand Bosch MAF

Question I have is, has the MAF been unplugged because of the egr or should it still be plugged in even with the egr removed?

Thanks
R

Hi Robert.
The MAF as been unplugged for two reasons only, one that is as a mafless MAP or the MAF it's self is not working as it should so as been unplugged.

Yes the MAF should be plugged in no matter if you have a bypass EGR or not.

Plug it back in and see if the car goes into limp mode if so then it's faulty, use your good one instead.

Thanks for the info guys,

I did try and plug it in and well, airbox has to be taken off and decided to just leave it for now. I have no idea whether it has had a remap and if it has, if it's had a mafless remap. Any way of finding out without the use of t4?

Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob.
It is not an hard job to remove the air filter cover.

PS can you not ask the last owner if he knows if it as had an upgrade MAP

You could do the mod to the cover which will help if you ever have to remove the MAF again.

I found similar on my latest 75 - MAF unplugged but no obvious clues as to why.
The reason became pretty clear when I plugged it back in, and the car would barely reach 3,000RPM even out of gear!

It's most likely a dead MAF as mentioned - I'd see how she behaves with it plugged in.
If faulty you'll find all 'pull' between idle and 2,250RPM or so has completely disappeared.

Thanks for the comments, I'll give it a try this weekend.

I couldn't remove the air box top cover the other day as I was running out of daylight.
And needed the car that night before work. I'll give it a go this weekend and see what happens.

If like robson rover repair has stated "mafless map" would plugging the MAF in cause an issue? As I say, I have very little paperwork for the car and unsure whether it may have been remapped at some point in its past.

I aren't able to make contact with any previous owner ( I did post a thread.in this very forum but no response).
