Worrying situation
Just read this on a Facebook Post.
This is very worrying https://flic.kr/p/2mFQJGg If you read the bottom section of the picture it says no modifications from standard, software and hardware . Plus you can only have you say on the government website till the 22nd of November. Dynodaze and many other company's like us up and down the country supplying ,fitting and mapping in modified parts would be out of business over night. Funny how this is our core business and yet we have not been notified of any of this , I'm reading it on social media. Have your say . https://www.gov.uk/government/consul...ling-tampering

the manufacturers and govt dont care about classic cars, infact they see them as polluting vehicles, the vehicle manufacturers are pushing hard to be get rid of the small independent mechanical shops through licensing their own IT for their cars so you will only be able to go to them for servicing.
Sort of what the large grocery chains did to the local corner stores. |

will these legislations not be introduced for vehicles made after a certain date? (I couldnt see anything about this).
I was once given an option to remove the cat on an old passat I had. Which I could legally do apparently, as it was first registered before 2004 or something similar - this was around 2008). But if it was a newer car, I had to have it. I believe currently there is similar regarding DPFs and their removal.

Surely software would include a remap?

If everything has to be totally standard, it will be nigh on impossible to keep one of these cars on the road.

I did not know what NRMM was so looked it up, if you dont know, see below
Non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) is defined as any mobile machine or vehicle that is not solely intended for carrying passengers or goods on the road. macafee2 |

"Tackling tampering We will create new offences for tampering with a system, part or component of a vehicle intended or adapted to be used on a road. This will enable us to address existing gaps in the legislation, ensuring cleaner and safer vehicles. We will also create new offences for tampering with non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) and for advertising ‘tampering’ services or products." If you read all the magazine article it appears it's worrying the classic car scene. Even the MG owners club technical advisor has expressed his concerns.

I would of thought this applies to the next generation cars not existing ones. EGR bypass and Cat and DPF removal have been illegal for years. Everyone who block a EGR valve etc knows why its fitted to the car.
The modern cars will be like a robot reporting any faults etc to the manufacturer and authorities! |
