If Rover was still around
Do you think that we would all be so into our cars if Rover had still been around and manufacturing more modern and up to date cars? Imagine what could of been produced by them now. Hatchbacks, convertibles, SUVs ? what do you think?

You'd have got what MG are offering now give or take.
Cars are mainly white goods (look at all the PCP deals for example). The quality is ok but they are 100% built down to a cost and designed to fill a market trend. So not so much what a designer thought, but what they thought would sell to appease the accountants. I think the reason MGR cars were special, they didn't keep the money men happy and hence the company went bump. Oddities in a world run on cost. To survive they would have had to produce the white goods vehicles and to produce the white goods vehicles... they would have had to have survived. |

Well another 339 days and we will all know what the modern Rover looks like
On a serious note, if they were to compete their cars would be nothing like the Rover of old. Although there will be lots who disagree I don't think this is such a bad thing, some of the modern Jaguars are pretty nice but completely different to Jaguars of old. Having a 2016 XJL share the drive with my ZT my only advice would be don't buy them for reliability |

I do think that we would still be enthusiastic about Rover/MG Rover if they were still making them.
Like MG nowadays, it’s the marque that people are enthusiastic about. Ok, lots don’t like the Chinese MG but, there are a lot more who accept it as being an MG, including the MGOC and the MGCC. When Minis were still being built up to 2000, the enthusiasm for them was as strong as ever, even though you could buy a new one. I’m certain it would be the same for Rover if they were still around.

... hopefully they would have built this beauty by now, and I would actually have one sat on my drive.

Not sure that would have sold many, it's got err unique looks
If they were in business, they'd be part of a bigger company, one of number of brands under one company. Small car companies selling mainstream cars aren't viable. They'd be probably be branded as comfortable mpv/suv cross overs. |
