Default How much !!!!

Yesterday I was at a classic car show and of course there was a manufacturer flogging there wares.

Maybe I am a bit out of touch but have you see what a VW Polo can cost you? Admittedly it was almost the top model but it was NOT a GTI and has a 1.0 litre engine but over £20k .

I was looking over it expecting something amazing and the salesman came over to me and was telling me there were lots of options available, I presumed they were all on this car hence the price and he explained the only extra on this car was the paint .

Wait for it if I wanted too put down £200 it could be mine for another £285 a months for 4 years and then for a paultey £7k after 4 years I could keep it. Is it me?

NO it's not you, that is, shall we say, rather overpriced, even more so for a VW as it was them that started all this emissions scandal in my opinion.

I did ask the salesman what the best price he could do if I was paying for it outright and not having it on one of these drip feed deals. He looked shocked and reckoned if I took something they had in stock I could get about 3% off of that.

He was explaining to me that the manufacturers give them a percentage back on every car they put on one of these deals so he would actually be making less money, if I wanted to factory order a car he reckoned the list price was it unless I took finance out and then he could give me a little off of that as the finance company give them money for putting it on finance and then all I need to do after 3 months tell the finance company I want a final payment price.

I can remember my father walking into a dealer and doing a deal on a car and saving himself 10 or more %, one car he bought the dealer gave him nearly 20% as there was a new model coming out.

You cant tell me these rental and fleet companies are paying these crazy prices for new cars? I suspect they are getting 30% off and we are subsidising it.

How can a brand new Jaguar be £31k and a Polo £20k?

I know that the local MG dealer hosted a meet of the MG Owners club, and was actively trying to sell cars to all the bods with classic MGs.

It's hard to get people into showrooms, so why not 'sell sell sell' when you have a captive audience?
