Default Reverse Parking System ?

The reverse parking system on my V6 has not worked for over four years and today I had yet another go at rectifying this.

After attending the T4 session at Perth Airport, returning back to my caravan at Scone Palace I heard a clicking sound from the rear seat area. I actually returned back to the meet and some of the guys were trying to find out the source of this clicking. We traced it to the rear parcel shelf but oddly at the time, this was not linked to the rear parking sensor speaker.

It was only a few days later I realised that my rear parking sensors were not giving the usual bleep sound.
What happens is this "
When I switch the ignition on their is a single click sound, not a beep.
When I select reverse the speaker starts clicking constantly, about once per second.
When I de select reverse the clicking continues and would click all day long until I switch off the ignition and start the car up again.
As most of my journeys start with reversing the car out of the drive I therefore had to switch off then start off in drive, my car is automatic.

I obtained another ECU along with bumper sensors and loom and when I hooked these up the same clicking sound was present.
I eventually gave up and disconnected the entire system to stop this constant clicking.
Fast forward the four years I obtained a speaker from Walter on this forum and today I hooked this up but still the same clicking whether it's connected to the original system or the second independent system.
BTW my reverse lights work perfectly.

I wondered at the time four years ago if it was something that had been done during the T4 session but this was discounted.

I really would like to get these working but I am baffled as to what is wrong so any ideas that I haven't tried already.

Red face Reverse ECU

Jim, how about changing ecu box on the wing, what colours your box, will look and see if have one here ? Might have loom from ecu to sensors if you want to eliminate that ?

If the reverse lights are activating, all fuses are in tact and since its an auto (assuming your user profile is correct) the reverse relay is working just fine.

Do you have access to a multimeter/voltmeter?

If so, remove the black plug from the parking ECU and with the key in pos 2 check the following (you will need a buddy to brake whilst reverse is selected);

Measure the voltage between Pin 1 (12V) and pin 6 (Earth). Should measure 12V. If so, power supply to the ECU is fine.

Measure the voltage between Pin 12 (12V supplied when reverse gear engaged) and pin 6 (Earth). Should measure 12V. If so power is being supplied to the parking ECU to indicate reverse is selected.

This will eliminate any fault at any point up to the parking ECU.

Thanks for that, As soon as this rain stops I will check it out.

One question, why the reason for pressing on the brake. I'm assuming on doing the check with ignition on but engine not started.

Believe it or not I've still not got round to checking this out.

Between bad weather and looking after the grand daughters I just can't find the time.

Good job it wasn't an MOT fail
