Tyre pressure monitoring systems
I would love some advice....I have just found out that there are such things....as tyre pressure monitors.
Seems a godsend and OK...OK....I admit to being a bit dim.....at times. What do other members think of them...are they a good idea, are they easy to install and I guess the million dollar question is, do they work ....?? |

I use the little Halfords digital one that fits on your key ring ok you have to bend down 4 times each week to check the pressures but surely its better than all the messing about

tyre pressure monitoring system
These can be a bit of fun, most of all, if they are standard factory fit item, they MUST work properly for the vehicle to pass MOT. When tyres get changed etc and the valve is lost or damaged the system flags up a fault, also on the Renaults, they have to be coded to the car. Aftermarket ones may well be better (Hopefully).
The old fashioned way suits me better and we are all used to it as we all check the pressures at least once a month ? |

Dont think they have to work for the MOT. Dads Renault Vel Satis has passed for the last 7 years without them all working properly as the wheels have come for 2 different cars

My 2005 Jag had this - it was an early pre-production model of the 2.7 diesel so, a little bit like some of the MGR press cars, it was fitted with some stuff that would only be available on the new model.
I didn't like the Jag system as it relied on unique valves with aluminium bodies. The first week I had the car, I tried to check the tyre pressures and promptly snapped the valve trying to remove the dustcap. Getting the local tyre place to put in a new valve wasn't bad - but since it wasn't the Jag/Ford one, I drove around with a warning message for weeks until I could get a replacement. Then I got a spare set of wheels and winter tyres - and guess what. Although the Jag system used special valves, it at least didn't need them to be coded to the car. Anyway, the Jag system didn't tell you what pressure you had, it just let you know if there was a large drop in pressure. There was no way to turn it of and you had to clear the message(s), one for each tyre every time you got into the car. MOT - this has changed recently, but older cars with the system aren't affected (as they weren't required to have it) Form the AA http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice...nges-2012.html Tyres Tyre pressure monitoring systems fitted to vehicles first registered after 1 January 2012 must be working correctly and not indicating a malfunction. |
