Hi Steve,

My dealer launch car casts doubt over that theory. It was built on 24th May 1999 and acquired by its first owner on 20th October.

Steve.
Correct Steve if a dealer registered a launch car as a demo they were supposed to keep it for 6 months before selling it on

But Josh, yours has a 2.0 litre V6 so it's not a dealer launch car.

Oh I know that it’s not a dealer car as we have paperwork to show it was owned by rover for 6 months

It isn't a theory and Steve should know as he worked for a Rover dealership at the time of the launch
The dealer concerned broke the agreement by selling it early and if they had been found out Rover would have had possibly sanctioned the dealer.

Depending on the size of the dealership there were 2 or 3 cars at the launch events, larger dealers did have a 2.0 V6 as well as the 2.5 and 1.8 models

Thanks for the clarification Russ. Steve's words specifically were "not allowed" and it's clear from your explanation that Rover didn't have the degree of control over the dealers that those words indicate.

I agree that's to be expected at an event, but that's not the same as dealer launch cars such as yours and my Wedgwood Blue Connoisseurs made in large numbers and all identical.

Well it shouldn't have been and my words were correct.
Rover were absolutely insistant that the dealer launch cars were not allowed to be sold until they were six months old, I remember the conversation well. Big penalties for any dealer caught doing so we were told.
But, this is the motor trade we are talking about.

Steve.

We all got a 1.8 club se in Atlantic blue that had heated cloth seats, headlamp wash and rear blind, maybe a little more spec that I have forgotten. I only know of two of these that still remain, Dave lincs has one and the other turned up at the BL show at Gaydon last weekend.

Hi Steve it was a club not an SE, with headlight washers, rear blind, heated seats, front fog lights and interior alarm sensor as you will find out when you collect it
