Price going up?

Hiya, Newbie here.

I've been looking to "dip-my-toe" into 75 ownership recently. Nothing specific, just a 2.5 V6 tourer with connoisseur trim .... thats all As people have commented, trying to find one isn't easy. Very few & those I've seen are either facelift versions, (I really want a mark 1 or original version or whatever they are referred to .... I am new ), or high mileages & I mean 150k + or there for sale miles away from me in Leeds.

Nevermind, I'll keep looking.

Interestingly I viewed on-line the Mathewsons classic car auction in Pickering at weekend, (closed door event due to Covid) and saw 2 x 75's go through. First being a 2000 connoisseur 2.0 in gold which didn't sell (only showed interest up to £200 & was then passed as reserve set at £750) and the other was a red 75 Club 2.0 with only 52k which sold for £1,150 + fees. First time I've seen a 75 go through this auction.

The really untidy examples seem to be sadly passed on now, leaving much better cars (by and large, anyway) - and these are commanding good money.

I was watching a low mileage Mk1 75 CDTi on eBay a couple of months ago - was very pleased when it sold for £3,600.
Exceptionally fine cars, and hopefully most will now be cared for in the hands of enthusiasts.

We're seeing a similar trend with the sale of parts - while everyone is still ordering the 'basics', there's an awful lot of owners spending large amounts on complete suspension kits and preventative maintenance of expensive components.

Always cheaper to prevent or repair than to scrap and replace. Much greener too !

Just had a trawl on eBay and I’m surprised - but pleased as I have one - that the cars are still listing at good prices. I’m sure this is in no small part down to the the support network amongst the trade. My brother in law tried an MG6 for a while, a Magnette, which I was generally impressed with, though the fit and finish was not up to R75 standard. It was a good looking car, but he sold it at about 5 years old as parts were becoming hard to find. Luckily he now runs a very nice early Connoisseur, so full circle.
I’ve spent good money on mine since I bought it, remap, tyres, alloys refurbed, prepping it for the long run.
I genuinely like my ZTT, I really use it - 29 mile each way commute - and I’m grateful for all those that help me keep it up, and I’ll give special thanks to DMGRS and Jamie as the first two traders that have helped me get on with it.

I sold mine for £2.5k in 2001 to help to pay a tax bill rather than raise a loan. Another mistake apparently lol Nevertheless, on a more serious note, what's his secret? Does it come with a gold bar hidden in the secret compartment?

Whilst nice examples are becoming more common, they are holding in my opinion over inflated prices, especially here in Northern Ireland in last 9 months with travel bans etc.

Mind you, I paid £2000 for our latest example....

.... and feel its genuinely worth every penny for age, condition, millage and also when you factor in the £400 flight & ferry cost of bringing a similar example to Northern Ireland from the mainland it was very fair.

I also have experienced and bought a few bargains in this pandemic, people selling off what they don't need, want or to cover bills etc.

Had to do it myself several years ago and sold all but 2 of my cars at rock bottom prices.

I will say come January we are going to be awash with cheap examples, and over priced cheap examples. Certainly locally a lot of people are selling up already.
