To be fair, no mg zr is ever going to be worth £7000.

A friend of mine is a MOT tester, ( no, he doesn't do me any favours when my car needs to be tested! )
He had a MG3 that was 4 years old on his lift for a test, he said he was surprised how much surface rust was underneath and could imagine that in the next couple of years it would require welding. It also failed on a couple of suspension components, but at 30,000 miles which it had done there about's this could be expected. On the flip side, my wife has a 2003 Rover 25. Underneath it is still extremely good. Never been welded, never been waxoyled either before you ask. It's not garaged as we don't have one, so it's out rain come shine. The wings are starting to go tatty, but this is all. I wonder what any of the new MG range will be like for longevity when they reach 17 plus years old?

I think there are a couple of monogram owners that would argue that case.

Ive looked at the ad and unless I am mistaken its a picture of a ZR no mention of ZR`s especially being broken its just a generic picture of a ZR. If you used a Vauxhall or any other brand they would have to cover up or even make an effort to cover the Vauxhall decals and grill etc.
The majority of ZRs left are rusty abused scrap with the odd exception of the monograms etc by members club owners but if you asked Joe Bloggs in the street they would say they were NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- anyway.(Wrongly or rightly). Chill everyone! As said the new ones must be poor if they are trying to give them away. Ive had a few 25s and were steady cars for little money and cost very little to run just outdated by all the new or same age cars. |

Indeed. The one at Highams Park in Chingford has been repurposed as a coffee shop which is a nice idea.

Well maybe it’s just me, but I’m not so easily offended that a photo upsets me. It’s just an advert, There’s no offensive or derogatory comments against the ZR or other old cars, simply a photo of an old car. They probably thought the MG connection would appeal to some, as it does me, my wife having just bought a ZS. It says in the text that you can swap any make or model of car, not just rusty old rovers. The people going for this scheme won’t be the keen enthusiasts, they’ll be the people who are running their cars into the ground anyway.
What I’m more interested in is the fact it’s a swap page scheme, not scrappage, so what happens to the cars they take in? Are sending them to auction or scrapping? |
