I think the reason MGR cars were special, they didn't keep the money men happy and hence the company went bump. Oddities in a world run on cost. To survive they would have had to produce the white goods vehicles and to produce the white goods vehicles... they would have had to have survived.
Really interesting analogy. I have a 2003 Mk1 ZT-T cdti

My wife’s care is a Hyundai i30 Tourer - brilliant car - does everything you want it to do with no fuss, no drama, no hassle.

But guess which car I want to drive.......

Some cars have “soul” - others don’t.

They would look like everything else on the road and probably built in Korea or Taiwan.

Oh yes, and the "SOUL" would have been removed years ago by the accountants.

What about the plans they had for the V8 range? We know they were planning a Supercharged version and probably one with a 6 speed gearbox.

Have a read HERE...
What a wonderful looking car that looks good from every angle. Before i bought my current ZT i was considering a 300 but i would have had to have had the diesel even though i wanted the 5.7 Hemi, which would have been impossible to run.

They would be producing cheap tinny runarounds for the throwaway market, just like everyone else.

I often wonder what would have happened if they were still collaborating with Honda, where their best models came about, unlike R40 which was always going to be an expensive car, built to a tight budget, and competing in a market it simply wasn't up to doing.

I do agree with Mike Trident, that the Rover 55 is an abomination, it would have been much more beneficial for MGR to concentrate on designing and building the smaller and midrange cars, rather than what they did.

Looking at some of the bits of design that Mgr were doing at the time i reckon somthing like the Range Rover evoque is where they would have been
