Is it possible to fit a KV6 2.5 2 speed cooling fan to a cdt that has a 3 speed fan.

My advice Colin would be not to attempt it unless you consider yourself knowlegable in automotive electrics.

Why are you considering this? Your diesel fan control box contains a PCB which is susceptible to failure. Whatever your problem is, it may have nothing to do with the motor.

I was told the brushes fail in the motor and the fan is then kaput. I dont know a lot about auto electrics. What is a PCB and how can i test the control box to check it. Are control boxes available to replace?
Thanks
Colin.

I've given more details in your other thread Colin, but to answer your questions here:

Yes; one or two brushes wear down to the minimum length in the 3 speed motor but it is not "kaput". New brushes can be fitted inexpensively and the motor lives on! But this is strictly a DIY repair. You won't find anyone prepared to do it commercially.

It's a Printed Circuit Board containing complex electronics. A multimeter is required to check that the PCB is energising the relays properly. Let me know if you want to pursue this.

Unfortunately not, although if a fault is suspected FrenchMike can help.

Default Diesel fan

Diesel fan not compatible with petrol and vice versa mate.

Don't botch one of the most critical parts of the car. Get the right one or better still replace with the replacement fan from Jules.

Yes it can be done, if the 2.5 petrol fan is a 2 speed with resistor you would have to use your original control box from your diesel, this would need some wiring alterations also you would need to make sure that the PCB board is in good working order, if it is not then you are wasting your time.

I am sure Simon will guide you through the testing of the PCB if you wished to go down this path, and I would talk you through the wiring alterations if you sent me an email. even though they can be found somewhere on here.

Default Brand new

The brand new fan from Jules is very good value at £159, is better than the originals and will last. You also know that it works and will not pack up after a few weeks ( which is quite likely when fitting second hand parts. Cheaper but a gamble) I have fitted a couple of these including one to my own V6.
Best option

Hi Christopher.
New is always going to be better than a second hand unit, or even a refurbished one, but if the job in undertaken properly there is no reason why the unit should not last a good minimum 30,000 or more years in fact and is a good alternative for those on a tight budget, they can also learn how the fan works at the same time as refurbishing there original fan we fit them regular at the nano meets, but also fit new ones as well each to there own as they say.
