Default Remote central locking still!

As some of you might remember I had a problem with my remote central locking, mostly that it wouldnt work. Changed the battery and still wont work, tried the 4 presses quickly, does nothing.

So today I went to get it reprogrammed, I paid £21 for the privilege of being told that it wont work. Apparently the key isnt set for the car. (Thought that was what I was paying to get done)

New key costs £166.11, they say this SHOULD solve it but might not. Dont want to fork out that much for the remote anyway.

Any ideas? I was thinking of checking the chip, what should I look for?

Thank you,

Joseph.

Also im told I should find out if the key is actually giving off a signal. Apparently there is a machine that will check for it?

Who on earth charged you that, to tell you it does not work. You knew that before you gave it them, you have been ripped off. I know what I would have told them, it begins and ends withy the same letter

they reprogrammed my key and then said there is a compatability issue with the key/car. So it didnt solve the problem.

Ok so they did work but the end result was still £21 to be told that!

Who did you take it to, Bob the builder.

He should have asked what caused it to stop working and explained the risks, **** artist springs to mind, charging £21 for that.

These remote keys can fail. In my case it was the little button on the circuit board inside the key. It was obvious it had gone, but clearly I didn't check if it was transmitting or not. I got a new key and all was well.

Suggest a look at this little button to see what state it looks to be in. If you only have one key, it is worth having another, in case you lose one.

Does the key start the car?

If so then the chances are the remote part of the key may be find them attached to the service book the original one too.
If the remote coding stored in the bcu has become corrupted then you would need the bar code for that fob to be able to re-enable it to the bcu.(you may find them attached to the service book)

£21 is a fair price to pay, to set up T4 on the car properly, check the key against the bcu info, diagnose any problem if poss and disconnect etc will take about 15-20 minutes, at normal garage rates you have not been ripped off.

If the key will start the car a cheaper option would be to get a fob with bar code off e-bay, swap immobiliser chip and keyblade then have the key enabled on T4.

The key does start the car and do everything else absolutely fine, only problem is r/c/l.

I think I understand what you mean. But I am not a technical person,

would

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ROVER-75-LAND-...#ht_810wt_1165

be ok? It says all it needs is to be reprogrammed but that seems a bit good to be true. I would rather have someone who knows about this sort of thing advise. Thank you very much for the help already by the way!

Joseph.
