Default Engine Noise

For a few weeks I have had a noise in the engine compartment, some thing like a tinny sound and very loud that it can be heard inside the car.( very much like you can get from an exhaust which has lose baffle's).
I have had a look and it seems to becoming from the off side of the engine around the alternator but lower down and to wards the rear of the engine. (2 ltr, V6, petrol.auto )
Whilst I am mechanically minded I am no longer able to take things apart and it would be nice if I could tell the garage what to look at rather than them tell me.

Tinny type rattles are often due to one of the exhaust heat shields coming loose. The one over the front pipe area is the usual suspect.

mine did that turned out to be a loose clamp .at the front of car where manifold bends to pick up the exhaust there is like a strap looking clap .mine was loose tightened it up noise gone .

Mine too - I can hear it on idle with the bonnet open. A very "tinny" and annoying sound.

Andy.

I do not need to open the bonnet to hear it. I can hear it even in the car.
Will contact Stocktake when he comes home from holiday and see if he will once again help (me ) sort out the problem and post his findings later.
