I'm using Mobil 1 10/40 semi synthetic, no problems at all many good brands out there to take your choice from.

A good oil is always the best way to go
Engine petrol all (exept 1.8-2.5 190 models) use SAE 10w-40
" Derv use SAE 10w-40

MGZT models and 1.8.T 10w-40,ACEA-A3 Specification only
as the 190 and + are tuned kv6 engins

Hi Phil,
Can you explain why you prefer Duckhams?

I ask this because I have X-Parts oil in my 2.5KV6, and when cold it’s making more noise than with my previous oil, what was Kroon. Both oils are semi synthetic 10W40
When the engine is warm it is as smooth as ever. At my next service I will have no more X-Parts oil.

There are so many stories on oil, so I am curious why Duckhams, and wich type?

Rob.

Purely from personal experience. I bought an MGZR new in 2003. I did an oil change myself, inbetween the scheduled services carried out by the Rover dealer. After my oil change, I noticed the engine was a lot noisier when hot. It ticked under light load. Anyway, the main dealer serviced it and I enquired what oil they'd used as I like to top up with the same type, they said Duckhams. Anyway, it was like a different car, the tapping had stopped and it was much smoother. Ever since, I've used Duckhams. I've found it to make a noticable difference to engine noise. I serviced my mates old Rover 45 for him a couple of years ago and he said he couldn't believe how much quieter the engine was. On my last 75, I went into work to change the oil, got it on a ramp, drained the oil out, popped across the road to get my Duckhams and was told they don't sell it anymore. Anyway, as the car had no oil in its sump I had no choice other than to use Magnatec. Magnatec is the oil I said I'd never use after it caused my ZR to rattle. I put magnatec in and every time I started it from cold I had about 3 or 4 seconds of engine rattle before it quietened down.

Thanks for your reply Phil,

What Duckhams did you use 5W40 or the 10W40?

Rob.
