Smile Rover 75 (05) Tourer, wont start!

My treasured 75 diesel has never refused to start -till now! Fully charged battery, all instrument light on and correct. try starting and the engine spins ok but no sign of life. The only thing I have noticed is, if I switch the side lights on there is a variale pitched buzz under the bonnet. When I first went to the car the door had been unlocked, so I locked and unlocked a couple of time and it fired. Stopped the engine but wont go again! Please can any one send me in the right direction?

Do you have an LP under bonnet fuel pump Les? Either way disconnect the fuel pipe where it enters the fuel filter and place it in a large jar. With key to position II you should get a strong flow of fuel into the jar.

Is the oil pressure alarm lamp coming on as it should with key to position II?
