Air Bag warning diagnosis - second opinion
Hi - as some of you maybe aware, this has been causing me problems for a while now. Yesterday, I took the car to the West Australian dealer for them to check it out. Came back with the following report.
"Investigated SRS light on. Tried to communicate to retrieve fault codes can communicate to engine and gearbox and other systems. Started to go through explore diagnostics for non communication. Checked fuse 18 for blown and feed present OK. Checked 12v supply to connector CO585 is OK and terminals OK. Removed centre console assy and radio fascia and instrument cluster and checked connections C0040, C0256,C0287, C0585 and C0821 checked diagnostic adapter pin harness OK. Checked feeds and earths at connector to Airbag module OK and checked harness to diagnostic plug to airbag module. When doing checks fault came and went twice and was able to communicate with module and no faults were present or stored historic. The when fault reoccurs unable to communicate, Suspect fault is in the airbag module after all exploration. Test carried out as per MG Diagnostics" If someone is an expert in this sort of info, do you agree that the problem points to a fault in the airbag module as they suspect? If so, I need to get an airbag module - any going out there? The part number provided is YWL 101590, the part numbers I have seen on ebay are YWC 107090. Does anyone know if YWC 107090 will work OK? I'm not an expert on this system, but intermittent faults of this type are more commonly down to loose connections. When control modules go faulty, they usually (but not always) stop working and never come back.
Power feeds, earths (grounds) on all the connectors need to be checked and the wires wiggled. HTH |

The dealer tells me that they have check all the connections and earths and the fault is suspected to be the air bag module. I've had the wires under the seat soldered, so I guess the only way to be sure is to change the module and see what happens. Regards Dean PS - I hope you get you bits for christmas |

The correct part number for vehicles up to chassis number 3D279843 is YWJ101590. After this chassis number the part number is YWJ000220.
I can't find any reference to YWC107090, or anything similar that relates to the airbag system. |

Well I agree with Ralph that that part number doesn't appear on the EPC, and mine is a very old copy.
However, this one here is from my car, a 2001 190 ZT. The only real way to check the part number on yours is to take the centre console out.
