If I may ask, what are you changing the alloys too, and why?

Not sure what I’ll change to, but the forks on the car are in pretty poor condition.
I do think star spokes suit a mark 2 silver though.😍

Not struggling, but gradually getter not so good, my left ankle. Fractured my tibia and fibula when a stone flew out of a rotary mower in around 1972 while mowing a contract at work. I was told I would get arthritis in it later in life, and they were not telling a lie. This warm weather makes it worse. So, I am glad that I have nearly got the KV6 Connie se on the road, automatic.

Unhappy

Ordered and received all the parts to get my MOT advisories done:
• Nearside Front Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))
• Rear Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement trailing arm bushes [both] (5.3.4 (a) (i))
• surface corrosion to underside of vehicle
• Offside Front Play in steering rack inner joint(s) ()

Got the corrosion sorted on Sunday. younger lad doing all the work for me - was only surface rust, so not too bad.

Dropped off the car at my local garage, to get the advisories done, having e-mailed them the above advisory notices last week. No free lift home from the garage, due to social distancing in place Caught a taxi home.

Received a 'phone call from the garage, possible cost of the work £4-500! Apparently, taking off the suspension to get to the bushes is a major job. I said I didn't think it would take 10 or 12 hours of labour, but the garage owner said it's over 10 years old (actually -16), and who knows how tough it might be to get the suspension off...

He should've warned me of the likely cost beforehand, and saved me a journey plus taxi fare home! Personally, I can't believe it's a possible 10 or 12 hour job (I presume he charges labour at £40 per hour), and am thoroughly pi**ed off at the estimated cost. No wonder otherwise good cars get scrapped. I'm not going to scrap mine, now on the look out for a cheaper estimate. The least he could've done is oil up the nuts to be taken off...

emailed a few enquiries to local garages to see if I could elicit a cheaper, firm quote. Some said no dice, "we only fit our own parts". So not only do they want the labour money, but the parts profit to...I guess it's a business decision, unless of course they don't want to be held responsible for fitting dodgy parts...

One garage insisted on viewing the car first, to see exactly what work is needed. After a few swear words about how difficult it would be (!), they settled on a price of £200. Same garage that fitted my rear upper suspension arm 2 years ago! Since no more replies, I'll be accepting their quote.

Having worked in the trade I can see their point, particularly if they have to warranty the job. If the customer buys the cheapest parts off the net and they fail the shop stands to lose money in labour time replacing them. Margins tend to be quite small these days and they may not want to take the chance.
Customers are all smiles and friendly when they are talking you into doing work you are not comfortable with but as soon as things go wrong they change their attitude.
Most of us who do our own work have had issues with substandard parts and we aren't paying a wage, or overhead on a shop. Even when I help out mates with a job I worry about getting a phone call if their car breaks down after.

I wouldn't fit customer sourced parts, as it is too difficult to exercise quality control, and by agreeing to fit the customer's own parts, you are accepting that they are fit for purpose.

Conversely I wouldn't be prepared to fit parts that I wouldn't be happy to fit to my own car, so you wouldn't have the cheapest part fitted either

So the question is, what are they fitting that they need to charge £200 ?

They are fitting items I bought from DMGR here, to get rid of my MOT advisories:

Nearside Front Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Rear Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement trailing arm bushes [both] (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Offside Front Play in steering rack inner joint(s) ()

So, 3 bushes and something on the steering rack. Seems very little for £200 of labour, but I understand fitting them involves quite a bit of work (or so they tell me...) I showed them the parts, they looked to see where to fit them...

Co-incidentally, they had a small part delivered to the garage during their inspection, costing £53. Garage owner was not happy at the price, immediately 'phoned the supplier for a discount, and then sourced something 'similar' for £10...so I'm pretty sure the parts I have sourced are as fit for the job as anything they might have bought for me!
