There are a few blemishes on mine, but it does not stop me looking around when it, thinking about how good it is. There are a few cars out there that are only good looking if you're on the inside looking out.

The tourer is a much nicer looking beast than the saloon, and that's that for me, the only R40 I've chosen rather than rescued was a tourer.

The tourer even looks quite nice in Monogram Snot Supertallic, I said this to Pete Barella when I saw his car for the first time, something that can't be said about the saloon.

For me most cars are long term, and most leave my ownership at end of life, and the longest I've owned one car is 32 years.

These cars look good, and as a design statement are pretty timeless, but they don't drive as nicely as a lot of contemporary cars.......but at the end of the day they are old cars now, and lot's of people have their rose tinted spectacles on when describing the driving experience

For the moment, my R40 will suffice, but as a driving experience the R40 is blown into the weeds by the R8, and that's my next project, I miss the practicality and good looks of the tourer (XW, not RJ)

Confession time. I have a gorgeous 21 year old that my wife is happy for me to spend time with and lavish with gifts! My 21 year old has a lovely body and draws admiring glances from gentlemen old and young alike. She gives me tingles when she growls at me if I tickle her in the right place!��I try to not let her get too dirty though!��

Tourers are way more practical, but the saloon does it for me on looks. One of the reasons I "ummed & arred" before buying mine was that it wasn't as practical as the hatchback it would be replacing.

I've owned her for 14 yrs now and still look back at her every time I park - just love the body shape

My father always bought the largest car he could afford (they look better generally, and certainly go better) at about 4 years old and ran them until they rusted away. As cars are better protected these days, they do last longer. I have currently owned my -

Triumph 2500TC for 33 years
Rover V8S SD1 for 25 years
Jaguar Sovereign Series 3 for 25 years
and most others in the fleet for over 10 years

Buy the right car and you never want to move on. When folk ask which I prefer, I always reply "the one I am currently driving", or I would not still have it!

I have had mine 59 years December. The wife that is. The longest I have had a car was 13 years. And that was t-boned out of existence by some plonker coming out of a side road at around 30 mph. My poor Rover SD1 .

I've got one just like it... paid a pittance for her and wouldn't consider getting rid .. Try not to let mine get too dirty too

My very First car at 18 was a 1.8 75, and i learned to drive in it, got my second 75 cdti a year later and have had this car for 14 years.
