One other thing while I think of it.
When reassembling the fuel filter it can be a BOAG (bit of a b**ger) to get in and hold it tight and do the ring up. Little tip, - move the rubber seal down a little and seat it first, then push the filter housing back down and.... hopefully, do up the O ring nice and tight.

When I passed on the Forum's suggestion, the comment was that they knew about this and that they quite often get Cars from other Garages with this issue. However they did not give me a definitve yes we have checked this, although the inference was that they had.
They are now advising that after fitting the Fuel Regulator Unit (whatever this is) that it now starting, and will try it several more times today (Friday). I hope that this includes some test driving, even if it is to get their Bacon Rolls. |

Collected Car late on Friday, and all seems well to date.
The Fuel Regulator Unit appears to have been the main problem, they did however put the old Fuel Pump back in (I'm amazed that they still had it), but the diagnostics were showing a pressure 2.5 Bar when it should be 4.0 (which achieved with the new pump. Given my earlier problems with them, they are willing to take the labour costs as a hit, but are asking me to pay for the part, which is £160. I've offerred £100, epsecially since I've already paid £420 to date, we'll see. At least they let me take the Car before we have finally agreed on a price. |

It appears that in many garages (not surprisingly) the good Rover Mec's have all moved on to pastures new! New mec's come in and the garage is still a "Rover Specialist" (cause they can get the parts and the sign says so). I bet - in this case - they did up the fuel filter and put the old pump back in (if they ever took it out) and are trying to charges £££'s. I know, I'm an old sceptic !!!

Fuel problems
Quote:
c) If rear pump and filter ok suspect under bonnet pump is running. These are the common failures. If the rear pump is dodgy it may throw an extra load on the front pump which, in time, can also fail. (later models only have one pump, in the tank) It would appear to me that the rear pump can function more easily with a 'fullish' tank. Usually when it fails the front pump can often draw sufficient when tank is 'fullish' but can give starting/running problems when low. If this persits it can then also fail. The Gurus will probably explain this better or where I am incorrect. So, if they haven't replaced pumps or (unlikely) the rear filter unit where the devil have they done £420 worth of work ? ? ? Is a pressure regulator really £160 ? Never heard of anyone replacing this up to now. Have any other members ? ? ?
