Default 1.8T question

Trying to assist a 1.8T (2005) owner who wants to know what is the fan noise he hears coming from the right hand side of his engine through the ventilation grill pictured, says there is hot air coming from it.

I've only ever owned V6s so haven't an idea, anyone with an answer please?

Regards

Sounds like it's the 1.8 Turbo Automatic. This has a special heat exchanger for the transmision oil.

Item No. 3 in T-Cut's link has been known to fail causing the fan to run more often than it should. The consensus seems to be that this fan should only run after a hearty, prolonged or dogged drive (I think the auto oil needs to reach something like 90C, but can't quite remember). If the fan comes on regularly or for no obvious reason, this is a likely culprit.

Cheers,
Karl.

Thanks for the information, interesting as he says the fan activates within seconds after starting. I've sent him a link to this thread.
