faulty number plate light
Hi all,
Can anyone help me with my plate lights. Last week it got noticed on my car that only 1 light on the rear number plate is working. I have tried 3 bulbs on the left and they all work, yet on the right, none of them work. If anyone can help me with this issue I would be eternally grateful, as I am pretty thick on these matters. Many kind thanks in advance. Paul Rover 75 2002 saloon 1.8L petrol |

Its a known issue. The pcb board goes. Some people bypass it with wires or you can replace them. Mine is dodgy. DMGRS used to do them but I can't find them tonight. Ebay has them.

Here's the culprit PCB. This is from a HowTo on servicng the numberplate system and dodgy LEDs.
The PCBs usually suffer corrosion around the spade connector joints and they frequently crack across one of the feed traces to the bulb holders. A simple soldered wire bridge will fix it or the complete printed circuit can be replaced by hard wiring. Hi Paul. Any of the tapes sold for auto applications will do (eg sticking on numberplates, badges, etc.).eBay has thousands and most will be satisfactory. The type you need is double sided foam. The best is made by 3M but watch out for '3M types' on eBay. The best is expensive, but Sellotape do a suitable one at less than 3M prices. They come in various widths so measure the bit to be stuck down to get a good match. EDIT: The crux to getting a good stick is to clean up the two surfaces with something like isopropanol. They must be absolutely dry and grease free. TC Last edited by T-Cut; 28th August 2019 at 17:22.. |
