Default Warning light

Hi I wonder if anyone can throw a light on this! When a rear 💡 failed the 🌖 light came up on the dash. I replaced the faulty 💡 but the warning light was still on. I disconnected the battery and the light went out when I started the car. Now the light has come back on even though all the bulbs are working ok. Any thoughts?

Check the brake lights because when a rear bulb fails, the car illuminates a brake light at 1/2 brightness to take its place. It's a safety feature

Thanks. But all bulbs are now ok. (I replaced the faulty one) yet the warning light still came on. Does it only go off after a dianostic check?

Nope, nothing required other that to replace the faulty bulb(s) to extinguish the warning lamp

Default Warning light

Wonder what's the chance of a faulty unit or damage caused by water getting in in the past? I have given it a squirt with wd40.

Funny this, as I had a license plate bulb failure (Neither worked), so the night it happened, night before going on holiday - I fitted one of the fab replacement PCB's !
Guess what ?
No workie - FAB !
Had to mess about with contacts and festoon pinch pieces as well as the riveted sections to the board itself, this was an improved part fresh from supplier !

So the moral of the story is - check everything, when checking rear lamps on a saloon, it is easier if both bulb holders are removed from the lamp unit and you will soon spot the bulb not working when you spot the substituted filament glowing instead of the proper one working.

The benefits of the highline IPK become very useful for this process of find the odd one out !
