Default Low screen wash warning

Is there a low screen wash warning light that comes up on the dash when fluid is low? My friend said this same up on his 75 recently. I have previously ran out of screen wash but I've never had a warning message displayed. Any idea why this is? And can this be fixed so I do get this message in future? Thanks.

There is a little float inside the washer bottle that triggers the light. These often get gunked up with grime and stick in the 'full' position so the warning light doesn't come on even though the tank may be empty.

Easiest thing to do is remove the bumper and give it a good clean - pretty straightforward job.

The float actually triggers a reed switch that plugs into a socket in the bottle but as stated the float can get stuck. The job is best done with the bumper off, check the reed switch is there, the one on my 1.8T was missing. Remove the pump and filter, place a bucket under the bottle, flush the bottle several times with a warm mild bleach solution the rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Or just check plug with sensor mounted in the bottom of tank.

It like to corrode, my looks fine, but when I tried to get it out, it broke.

Before I broke it my warning light was always off even with out of fluid in tank

Exactly this, the pins corrode off the sensor and it stops working. You probably need a new sensor.

You could use the tactile manual verification technique...

Pull the wash lever, when the water stops the bottle is empty...

The only dodgy thing is if you have headlight washers. The low level warning cuts power to the headlight wash pump to prevent it running dry.
