Default Symphony - difference between UK and Japan versions

In case anyone needs it, here's some info on the button layout for UK and Japan versions of the Symphony.

The CD/TAPE/TEL buttons are different but the switches underneath them are in exactly the same places.

The UK Symphony has one button marked CD/TAPE to switch between CD and TAPE (switch SW419). A separate button marked TEL operates the PHONE switch (SW403).

The Japan Symphony doesn't make sense. It has one button marked TAPE which operates the CD/TAPE switch (SW419). A separate button marked CD operates the PHONE switch (SW403). I have no idea why these buttons are marked differently to the UK version.

UK SYMPHONY BUTTON LAYOUT - unit shown is XQD000300PUY

JAPAN SYMPHONY BUTTON LAYOUT - unit shown is XQD101112PUY

UK SYMPHONY SWITCH LAYOUT - unit shown is XQD000300PUY

JAPAN SYMPHONY SWITCH LAYOUT - unit shown is XQD101112PUY

NB. Buttons can be separated from the fascia panels - so they're interchangeable between units (assuming they say the right thing!)

Here's an auction for the Japan spec Symphony XQD101112PUY http://www.jauce.com/auction/x396199967. It shows the same button layout as my 2nd pic above.

Weird

Japan radio would have different frequency range too, so can't receive all UK stations

Yes, but that doesn't explain the difference in buttons.

perhaps they never had the intention of adding phone capability to the Japan spec models? But kept the same functionality as the UK units as they never changed the software?
