Dismantle Push Button Switches
Has anyone dismantled one of the centre console push buttons?
I have a Traction pushbutton that I want to take the oval top off to replace the round one on French Mikes FBH contol box. I have removed it from the switch but there is still quite a bit that appears to be glued together. Just thought I'd ask before I get the junior hacksaw out. SteveNM

I'm unclear what you're tryting to do, but is it related to dismantling the rear box?
This bit? TC |

Hi TC,
The button on the right in your first picture, I just need the hollow dome. SteveN

Hmm, it looks pretty tightly attached to the other bit. It may be 'glued' on, but I suspect more likely to be a one-way snap together fitting. With no access to the fitting, your suggested hacksaw may be the only solution. I'll be interested to know. Good luck.

I 'dismantled' one once. When I say dismantled, I mean destroyed. I had separated as in t-cut's picture above, withdrawing all the gubbins inside. The plan was to mount a USB socket into it. I had drilled it with the domed part still attached to the 'backing' of it. Once it was drilled it was flexible enough to pull off (by that stage I had given up on the idea). From memory it prised off, but with difficulty, and as I said it had the centre drilled out of it, so could be flexed. It will come off, but it will be on very very tightly.

Well, I got the hacksaw out yesterday evening and here is what I found:
This is the underside of the button. there 'was' 4 tabs, but one was cut off by the hacksaw And this is the body, sorry it's a little blurred. Where each of the corners is chamfered @ 45 there is a small 'pip' for the tabs on the button to clip over. now in the base of the body are 4 holes that align with these pips/tabs, so I think with a very small (watch maker) flat screwdriver you may be able to release the tabs.?? just visible in the pic SteveN

It's a one-shot snap fitting as I suspected. Thanks for the info.

No I don't think so TC.
Had I known that the button was held on by the 4 tabs, and that there are holes in the base that align with the tabs i feel confident I could have removed the button without the hacksaw. SteveN

This is the underside of the base of the button.
Mid way along each side (45 chamfer) there is a hole which aligns with the tabs on the button head. SteveN
