Default Automatic Gearbox Rattle - 2.5 V6 75

I bought the car a week ago and today noticed that when at a junction or in traffic, there was a slight rattle in Drive (with foot on brake). If I put the car in Neutral the rattle went, and while the car was moving I couldn't hear it. After a while the rattle stopped, until I got back in the car from picking my shopping up at Tesco, then it began again. Also it doesn't do it if I put it in Reverse and put my foot on the break.

Could be something as simple as one of the exhaust heat shields has dropped onto the pipe. Easy to spot and can be repaired with penny washers from B&Q.

I was wondering heat shield as it may be certain vibration frequencies. Another group was telling me I need a gearbox flush. Next purchase axle stands.

Also, I did listen around the engine bay as much as I could, but nothing there.

I understand that the cats can rattle as they age. Mine rattles until it warms up. I worried that it may be engine or gearbox so ran it up my ramps. It's definitely the cat on mine. Emissions are fine on the MOT, so I just ignore it now. I did read somewhere that a rattling cat can be cured by giving the case a "squeeze" with a large G cramp. Never tried it though.

Could be, it gets quieter (but doesn't stop completely) the longer the car has been running.

Do not do that!

The only thing you need to do with the autobox is change the fluid (Use someone who has done the jbb on a 75 before)

I live near an X Parts MGR specialist. I would only go there for Auto fluid change. Exeter Gear Box have screwed a couple 75/ZT autos up, so I've heard. It's on my list of things to do

This may help for a fluid change:-

I'm guessing that this will not be your problem, although a fluid change will be good for the box anyway (assuming that you haven't had one).

It may well be a loose or bent heatshield on the exhaust, I have known in the past a worn bottom mount also can cause vibration noises. This is due to the stress on the lower mount is the opposite way when in reverse as opposed to forward gears.
Open the bonnet with the car in neutral sit in the drivers seat and switch between forward and reverse gears, you should be able to see through the gap how much the engine rocks.
