Still locked out....
Pulling down on what I think is the correct latch/rod, and nothing. Even with wife trying to open door from outside whilst latch is down. Looks like its the angle grinder the weekend

I had same problem, i used a 2ft long wooden ruler,with window down i prodded ruler down a few times in area of lock and door opened. Must have been one of my lucky days.

The white clip you can see at the bottom of picture 5 in arctic's post is clipped around the threaded bar. this clip can be opened to release the clip completely from the threaded bar. Thin screw driver does the trick but I won't pretend it is easy.
Once done this should allow the door to open and in all but one cases I know of this has enabled the linkage to be reassembled in the correct position. The one case where this was not the issue the door lock had seized in a deadlock position.
