If it's anything like the one near us, it's because of businesses taking the mick. They are supposed to pay to dispose of it, but wouldn't so they kept taking it to the tip and spoiling it for everyone else. i know in some places vans are banned from the tip.

Our tip doesn't allow vans, car based vans or trailers.

Trade waste costs a fortune though, so I can see why they do it.

I had to pay £290 for a 16 yard skip recently, if my customer took the rubbish to the tip, it would have been free.

Hi.
I remember when I had the TV repair shop that charges were rising every year for our business disposal.
It was the usual way with a weighbridge on arrival and leaving, on average it was about a dozen scrap tellies but I shudder to think of the cost now, ten years later on!

The costs are about the same, it's just one is direct the other hidden in council tax .

It's about £1.24 per 10kg now with the vat.

Minimum charge 250kg.

In our tip we have a charity shop on the site that will get the good stuff and sell it on.

Default .......Chicks for free........

Our tip place is pretty good - it does have a few "jobs worth" tho.

But avoid them and you are fine. It is in Dorset but covers Hampshire - Nice items are sold via a shop - and recyclable items such as sinks, tiles etc are set out for people to take. So I think it is pretty good all-round.

You are allowed a Trailer (I have a Twin axle Wessex Trailer) but you have to have a permit - this permit is free and you can use it twelve times a year.

Only problem I had was when I went back the following day with a second trailer load and this chap with "short person syndrome" (he came up to my navel ) Told me that I could not use the tip as the permit only allowed Trailers "Once a Month".

Luckily I knew the reality - which was that you could visit 12 times in a day if you had a mind to - but thereafter you would have to wait a year for your 13th visit.

But this idiot was having none of it. So I stood there and rang the Council on my mobile. And on speakerphone this jobsworth was told I was right and he was wrong.

Sometimes modern technology is ruddy marvellous

My first bicycle was also one he'd acquired and refurbished.
Same with Newcastle council, one tip attendant was sacked for allowing a member of the public, to reclaim something from a skip. They have cctv cameras watching them now, both the staff and the public.
