Might be a 1.8 thing then, the diesels and the v6 have the splined type.

here is a picture of the studs, Number 6 has kindly sent me.

Hopefully Trikey I can get one out, is this the stud you think I should be able to get out?

Yep get it nice and hot, support the flange with a socket over the head of the stud then whack the threaded end with a steel hammer.

Number 6 are you will to split the studs from the elbow or are you just looking to sell the elbow as is,as it looks like myself and macafee2 both are in need of a stud (no pun intended )

Matt, I think it would be hard work for Number 6 or anyone to remove the stud. Once removed I was planning on using an "ordinary bolt".
Not sure how easy it would be to reinsert a "stud" or if it would hold once the splines have been used.

I am not sure I can get the unit off and so may try with it in place. It is undoing the top bolt that concerns me as well as snapping those studs
