MS Paint now in German
Don't know when it started but MS Paint now speaks German (not on the main screen, just in the prompts).
Went on t'internet and found a couple of references to hijack viruses from Germany. Have run AVG on deep scan (nearly 6 hours), Spybot and Ad-aware - nothing. Un-installed then re-installed Paint, and it is still the same. Any ideas anyone? Thanks Mick |

Mick, check the settings under the regional and language options in the control panel.

I am running Vista for my sins.
Went start/help and support and typed in Language for a search. Fair bit of reading popped up. |

You could try uninstalling paint under 'add/remove windows components' (control panel - add/remove programs) but you may need your windows disc to reinstall it. Alternatively, if you can find mspaint.exe on your windows disc, you could extract it and use it to replace the version currently on your computer. You should find it in the c:\windows\system32 folder. It would probably be safest to rename your current version to mspaint_old or something similar rather than deleting or overwriting it. If this doesn't work, I don't know.... I would make a system restore point before tinkering with the windows folder.

If 'regular' cleaning/scanning/installing/reinstalling methods aren't working then you may have to be a bit more invasive in your approach. Often when installation software fails to correct a bug you may need to resort to manually editing registry entries. Chances are there is a rouge entry in the registry which is causing the program to run in German.
If you have a previous restore point to roll back to then I suggest doing that first before undertaking registry editing. |

Pedro, did the uninstall, reinstall. No difference.
Simon, the programme isn't running in German, just the prompts (i.e. do you wish to save changes etc). Am a bit loathe to do a roll-back, usually lose a few things. May just live with it as it can't be a virus? Mick - you need to upload the picture files to somewhere like Photobucket because at the moment they are on your harddrive and not visible to anyone else other than yourself.
