Default M42 Junctions 3 to 7b Speed Cameras go live TOMORROW

Just picked this up from one my e-mail addresses (which, unfortunately I don't examine very often) dated 8.2.09...

"*Re: M42 Junctions 3 to 7b Speed Cameras go live TOMORROW

As of tomorrow I have discovered that a new digital automated
tracking system between junctions 3 & 7b on the M42 is scheduled
to go live.

There are 276 Digital Cameras which have been set to 2MPH
tolerance.

You will not see any flash and the fine is £60 plus 3 points
(which could add to over £250 / year to your insurance).

This information comes to me on good authority but I must stress
that it is un-official.

I hope this email saves you if you have to travel on the M42.

All the best,

Adam Blair
P.S. The BTST Locator will be updated with these new speed
camera locations - See http://speedcameralocator.co.uk/BTSTMembers/
if you want to protect yourself from the speed camera menace.

Hope this post helps......

I'd not put too much faith in that email, as (mostly) his company have been sending out an identical one for about four years at random intervals. It's a scare tactic to get people to buy speed camera warning devices.

I've had a few of those emails over the years, and if you google the phrase 'M42 Junctions 3 to 7b Speed Cameras', you'll see they've apparently been activating those cameras quite a few times.

There are many cameras installed on that stretch of road, but 99.9% of them are to do with traffic flow monitoring and control rather than speed.

Only just going live? they've been fitted for a good few years now. Nobody takes any notice of them though. Even when the 50 or 60 mph warning signs are up you still get everyone in the fast lane flying through them at 80odd

This is another clue that the e-mail is bogus. Since many cars' speedos can be up to 10% inaccurate (including my Rover 75), such a tolerance could not be enforced.

Incidentally, has anyone using the M25 beside Heathrow ever seen the variable speed limit cameras flashing? I haven't.

Simon.

FAKE!!!

I can confirm that the camera base on that stretch of M42 is purely for the traffic monitoring stations. They are not listed on the "official" live camera partnership ATKO databases. Believe me, i DO know..

That aside, i understand that their programme of camera interactions are subject to local authority approval and this is still on-going since 2003, so read into this as you may.

Just thought i would input some FACT here.
