Have to say straights look superb on your car, go really well with dark paintwork.

I took Forestgreen for her MOT and annual service today. Once again she sailed through, so as a reward I treated her to a wash and hand polish at the local East European cleaning outfit. Despite Halfrauds having told me the recent parking scrape had cut right through the paint they somehow managed to completely polish out all traces of the offending car from my door which has delighted me. Reckon I'll be back again before too long to sort out the tiny paint chips that if you look very closely stop her looking like she just came out of the factory.
Oh and I sense some more walnut will be on the order books too! |

Leaves now falling from trees, so spent a few minutes running a full cycle test on the fuel burning heater.
Glad I did. First run warmed up nicely, then aborted accompanied by clouds of smoke out of its intake and a seemingly endless pause before the purge cycle kicked in. Second time through ran like a charm. I suspect a brief interruption in the fuel supply due to the length of time since last used. I'm sure that had the first run happened in anger, I'd have excreted bricks at the sight of all that smoke from under the bonnet.....

New gearbox, original new old stock Rover flywheel, Borg & Beck clutch kit and slave cylinder all in place and running smoothly yesterday.
Props to DMGRS! The Borg & Beck clutch kit is fantastic, the springs really help with a smooth engagement and the clutch pedal feels a heck of a lot nicer. Probably aided by the new flywheel and new clutch fluid as well. Flywheel had about two inches of movement in it and was covered in bright blue patches from slipping I assume. Looks like the original slave cylinder, 124k on it! bearing was well shot. this is what the clutch fluid looked like too, after running almost a cup full of fresh fluid through. the stuff that came out was opaque and grey. Like the flywheel, it too appears to have been the original stuff from the factory. full of bits, odourless, watery and definitely not good. The clutch fluid was actually the most painful part, Haynes manual says the clutch system is fed from the brake fluid reservoir, which we found out it isn't. Instead, the reservoir is on the master cylinder, and is totally inaccessible. The subframe was unbolted on the gearbox side and loosened engine side, and with the help of a gearbox lifting jack it came out with minimal fuss, with the linkage arm just touching the chassis leg as it was wiggled down. |

Got the magic number after replacing OEM stat. Not difficult to do but daunting if your not used to using spanners.
Brought from Land Rover trade parts via fleabay, less than £30. I didn't want a hose mod and this wasn't expensive. Last edited by Vossy; 12th September 2014 at 22:47.. |
