Mislocking.

For the archives really. Car mislocked, well didn't lock at all, just beeped. Brian suggested Fuse 36 (in the passenger side footwell) had blown. Replacing this fuse cured the fault.
So thanks to Brian, and all the other responders for fixing this, and hopefully anyone seeking an answer to this fault will find the thread.

Could also be any of the door, boot or bonnet switches.
