I'm hoping someone comes up with an answer.
The cursor on mine started going the opposite direction to my car, me driving North on road, cursor going South to middle of field.
Removing/reinserting disc no good.
Battery reset, no good.
Sat/Nav unit disconnected for week hoping for a memory drain, no good.
And just in case anyone asks, unit and wheel well are both bone dry.

Yes, I was headed east but the cursor and map had me going west until, apparently, I ran out of land and went for a swim ! I do hope someone can help us. It appears it was using the gyro for direction and not connecting with any satellites. What is it that has gone wrong ?

If your not picking up any satellites then maybe it could be the gps antennae/cable?

This will almost certainly be due to a failed GPS Shark's Fin antenna mounted on the roof of yours and Alanjay's tourers. It's becoming a very common fault as our cars get older. Look at the globe symbol in the top right corner of your sat nav map screen, if there are no stars or picture of a satellite, but just a globe, you've lost satellite reception.

Have a look at this thread on the subject for more (especially posts 10 and 14)

Hi-Line shows "Vehicle position outside map limits" message

You'll probably need to replace the roof mounted shark's fin antenna and that should cure the problem.

For info on removing the antenna look here

Many thanks. So I have the symptoms of not satellite signal so it looks like I need a new aerial . I go the page at Rimmer

http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001659

And it says for "black and white navigation system". Mine is a colour display, what is this black and white system or have I got the wrong aerial part number ?

Default Bought a new aerial and fitted it !

Bought a new aerial and fitted it and had no change whatsoever.

Somewhat disappointed there. What is next ?

Messed about for 20 minutes disconnecting and reconnecting and then hey presto - satellites picked up and then position corrected ! Yippee dodarr

But in the mean time I could not get it to go into service mode.
Set and then hold down menu for 8 seconds - nothing happens. What am I doing wrong ?

Default Battery off

Battery off and sound system reset using the TP button and this time it would go into service mode. All working fine.
GPS fine
CD player fine (cassette was stuck and showing "CD Check" all the time)

Now the only problem left is that the Navteq CD will not come out of the drive. So how do I sort that one out ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Took the top cover off the drive unit. No ignition on and all static - disc visible. "Power" LED not on
Ignition turned on and GPS turned on and disc rotates and GPS reads it. "Power" LED not on
"Eject" button pressed whilst disc is spinning. Nothing happens, disc continues to spin.
Ignition turned off. "Eject" button pressed whilst disc is static. Nothing happens, disc remains static.
