Hi all,
A friend gave me this device yesterday which he brought several years ago but never fitted.
According to the info/instructions its magnetic inside and attaches via cable ties to the inlet fuel pipe which ultimately 'during the running in period the ionised fuel cleans the combustion area of the engine'........ So my question......is it worth fitting to my CDTi ZT?

Snake oil salesman says it will work; in practice, its a waste of money. Now if you can get hold of some dilithium crystals, Scottie will go into overdrive and your 75 will go at warp speed.

One of the best snake oil "gadgets" I remember was how clipping a unipolar magnet to the neck of your fuel filler would make all the molecules in your fuel point the same way and burn more efficiently ...
Whaddya mean you're not interested?! This little device will save you a fortune!!

I saw a device back in early 2000 which sits on the pipe work of your oil recirculation system and it takes metal out of the engine oil. I thought it was interesting, very snake oil-ish, but still interesting!

Found one of these on my first 75, went straight into the bin.

Magnetism isn't capable of ionising anything. Petrol isn't capable of being ionised anyway, it's nonionic.

A drawing I made last time:

EDIT: These gizmos are still sold on eBay, so there's still plenty born every minute.

I would imagine you'd need a fairly strong magnet for that to work with the oil in circulation, but aren't some sump plugs magnetised so that any particles reaching the bottom of the sump are more likely to stay there? Or am I dreaming?

Sump plugs used to be magnetic as I remember seeing lots of metal particles clinging to the plug when I first cut me teeth on my first car's oil change.
