To make it worse the helpful Travel insurance did want to know as soon as air ambulance was mentioned.

The Greeks have been fantastic though. She had a serious compression fracture on L5 and 4, the bottom two vertebrae. She had plates and screws fitted on Tuesday, was able to stand briefly on Wed, walk with help on Thursday and improving every day from there.

Should be home Early hours of Tuesday morning, fit to fly note permitting. Left oldest son looking after house lol so god knows what we’ll come back to.

Thanks guys, it’s going to be a slow road to recovery. She’s handled the whole thing very well, but I don’t think she realises how serious things are yet.

I am shocked and disappointed Nigel in how the travel insurance underwriters have treated you. I worked in that industry freelance for 20 years. On one trip, I flew out to Athens in an air ambulance to pick up 3 patients. One was a 5 year old child who had diabetes and his mum, the other 2 had been in a moped accident and had sustained serious life threatening injuries whilst on holiday in Rhodes. They had to be flown to Athens for major surgery and vascular surgery. We flew back the same day and they all had to be admitted into the NHS.

I am wondering who the travel company is? By all means pm me.

Following spinal surgery the flight back as a sitting passenger is going to be uncomfortable for your daughter. Your in a very difficult position as I know how it’s not easy making contact with the travel insurance staff, the medical desk, but these companies hate being sued for liability and duty of care, for compensation etc. Kick up a stink, they might change their tune.

You can also ask the local British Consulate for help - the duty officer.

The medical officer in Greece looking after her can state that he wants your daughter to have an air ambulance and an escort, or even as a stretcher case on a scheduled flight, he also has to sign a letter for the airline, that she is fit to fly regardless as to whether or not it’s on a commercial flight or in an air ambulance. If the underwriters, still won’t play ball, kick up a stink, book an airline back with a bigger seat or a flatbed and put in a claim for all costs on your return.

It will be helpful for you to bring her notes, X-rays and scan results, plus discharge letter/medication, as the doctors in the UK will need it (via A&E, sorry) You will need to have her assessed again in your local hospital for rehabilitation and any future treatment.

Keep the faith.

Afternoon all, cool & very windy with showers rolling through here, lots of people walking past who got caught out in the rain & drenched.

Cheers Andy, from what I’ve heard she’s been a very lucky Girl. Not the phone call you want at 2:30am.
