Wishful thinking I am afraid Fred. The system created for parking tickets doesn't use the courts (unless the victim refuses to pay the ever increasing fine).

Hope that this gets cleared unfortunately there have been a number of similar instances in the press of late where an appeal has not been accepted because it has been said that putting in the correct registration is the fault of the car driver.

You'd think that it must be fairly obvious to all to an examining appeal adjudicator that if a person turns up with evidence of car opwnership with a registration one number or letter out that the case is genuine

It's ludicrous and helps sum up why decent ordinary people are fast losing faith with authority.

On a slightly different tack there have been quite a number of rail passengers round my way who have been fined £600 for travelling without rail tickets because they have been unable to purchase tickets at the station that they get on at because all the ticket offices have been done away with and where there is a ticket machine they have been faulty or not accepting payment.

The travellers have got on the train having no option to buy a ticket and then have been hammered with the fine and branded a ticket cheat in court because they didn't have a ticket.

I have been in just such a scenario on a number of occasions due to no staff on many stations anymore but managed to pay at the other end before getting booked by an over enthusiastic and not understanding the situation conductor on the train.

As I suggested Simon, if one has the evidence, offer them out.

BigAde - does the misquoted registration exist? if not, then there is another string to your bow, as it indicates an error and you have the original ticket.

I can't recall the exact details but I'm sure my wife had a similar experience a few years back (meter -have to pay by phone). Due to poor light, raining etc. she put the details of our reg in one digit wrong.

She won the appeal on the basis of genuine error, no attempt to escape payment etc.

If it was one of those machines with tiny steel buttons which you need your reading glasses to see at crotch height, which reflect the light around you - I doubt they comply with the DDA regs for a start..
Since they were introduced into a car park near me, I've made a point of entering one or two digits wrong, S for a 5 etc, and never yet had a ticket. I do the same with the daft touchscreen one in Aldi too...

It's a genuine mistake, pursue it to death.

Aside, I recently parked up at Luton Airport for 3 weeks. Pree booked, and on approaching the barrier it spat out a ticket which was supposed to have my reg on it. I didn't know, and the seven digit code across the front, while it looked like maybe an old london reg, could have just been a serial number.
On return, approach barrier, machine asks for £554 for parking. Quite whose ticket I'd been given I don't know ~ but I would never trust their ANPR again!

If it is a mistake entering reg and you have the ticket, they will not be able to enforce it in court, just try to bully you, but take video of ticket before you send it anyone for appeal. Known this happen several times, once in a parking eye car park with ANPR, that takes a pic of your car as you leave, if your number is not in the machines memory. all made a digit error.

Enjoy challenging them, as the advantage is with you.
Oh yes! - enjoy it!!

And make sure you let people in the town where you live know, that if you lose then your shopping habits will be forced towards online providers and ask them to question what local Councils are doing to prevent the demise of our Town and City centres?

It is the mindless stupidity of what many have recalled on here regarding crazy parking charges and equally crazy fines that is destroying our town and city centres.

If you lose let those around you know that this behaviour by those “in charge” has changed your behaviour such that you no longer shop as you once did. Tell them that THEIR actions have stopped you shopping in your local town centre.

Only when the idiocy of those in charge is successfully challenged will we see a change in attitude and a halt to the demise of our wonderful Town and City centres.

Cool

I won my case as I had all my evidence on a dash cam. The full story is on here somewhere, when I can i’ll Post it up.

Fight the appeal, nothing to lose but everything to gain.

Think 75p from local authority parking tickets goes to fund the appeal process, if I were you appeal it, you may be lucky.

I'm fighting a private parking ticket at this moment, went to the post office and didn't notice they had installed a new system, so far the claim is for £325 for a whole 9 minutes, I've just filed my defence on line and waiting for the next stage AQ.
