2.0 cdt 2002 idle drops every 3 secs & grating noise

Hello all,
May I say what a great forum, stacked full of great posts. I have trawled through many looking for the problem my 75 has but to no avail.
I have just purchased a very nice 2.0 cdti 2002 connissuer, with black leather interior, cruise control, heated seats. However, 250 miles into its new life with me it has developed a problem.
Every 3 secs in idle and during driving the idle drops (not much) and there is a low grating type sound. No noticeable loss of performance. I have noticed the bite of the clutch is very low compared to my old saab 9-5.
It has 130k on the clock.
Does anyone have any ideas what this may be.
