I've seen rover 75 CDTs on autotrader for under 1k, seemed pretty good too.
Mine cost £1,400 in march, V reg and it runs fine, just passed its MOT and they said the engine was in amazing condition. If you can hold out for a bit im sure you can find a good CDT for under 1k. |

three had over 200k miles on the clock!!!! it may take some time to find a decent one , but hang in there. |

Do also consider the issue of maintenance, because it is likely that your Lexus is at least reasonably reliable, even if it uses a lot of fuel.
By setting your budget at £1000, you might indeed find a 75 diesel that does 45+ mpg, but will then have to spend money on maintenance and replacing worn components. Parts wear out and the older the car, the more likely it is going to be you who has to replace them, unless they have already been done. So check carefully that the car you select has been well maintained, with proof in the form of bills and invoices. The 75s were a very well designed and built car, so you can be confident about the intrinsic quality of the car. |

A grand is a tough budget, but if I was you, id buy from within the club. A CDT is most likely going to need a grands worth of maintance in the immediate future (some upgrades, some essential fixes!) so spending 1600 on a club car with the work done is a great investment.

I bought a cheap CDT recently - not from the club.
So far I have had to replace: Kenlowe radiator fan - £145 for the kit - plus several hours to strip and fit (genuine Rover unit £300+) intercooler viton rings - £3 new IPK - £85 plus £45 for T4 session new aircon condensor - £60 plus whatever it's gonna cost for a pressure test and re-fill If I'd gone for a club car - which I nearly did but thought about it too long and it had gone - I wouldn't have had any of this expense. Clutch had recently been replaced, but you can generally expect to replace that, my exhaust is original and doesn't look too great but is OK for now. £300 each for those Your MAF will more than likely need replacing or be out of speck and you'll probably want more performance - so you'll want a synergy 2 at around £180 plus a MAF at £80 for a cheapy and £300+ for genuine. You can see where the "you'll probably have to spend £1k on a cheap CDT" comes from.
