Disconnect IPK wiring loom - how?

Hi all,

Just hoping someone may be able to give me a hand on a drizzly Sunday. I'm trying to get my instrument panel out, and I've hit a snag with disconnecting the wiring looms from the back of the pack, as I can't figure out quite how the clips work. I'm sure there's a knack to it, but I just thought I should ask rather than stamping on ahead and wrecking it in the process

Ian; many connectors have a hinged clamp. These swing outwards towards the cable entry and, in doing so, the connector magically releases itself!

Push the small square tab at the top of the plug in, this will allow the swing arm to rotate 90 degrees and the plug will fall out... fitting is the reverse

Steve; I don't know why I haven't thought of this before. Your photographs are always so clear and technically descriptive that you ought to take over Haynes' workshop manual business.

Oh, and I love your screwdriver in use as a pointer. That's seen some life has't it!

PS In my original post I should have said that the clamp swings away from the cable entry, as is clear from Steve's photos.

Many thanks guys - that did the trick! I seem to remember coming across those clips before somewhere else in the car, and seemed to just luck into getting them apart. It's all so much easier now I know how it works!

Now all I need to do is get the black backing plate off to get access to the circuit board... I've unscrewed all (six?) screws holding the black plate on, and I can see there are two clips holding it in at either end, but is there anything else I need to loosen? Even if I release the two clips, the black cover doesn't seem to come away from the circuit board, and I don't fancy just pulling it in case there's a clip hiding somewhere I don't know about

I guess now is probably as good a time as any to ask if what I'm doing is actually possible! I've lost sound from the speaker in the instrument panel, so I'm getting no beeps when I leave my lights on, or from my reversing sensors, despite the reversing sensors all activating properly. So, I'm assuming it's either a duff speaker, or a dodgy connection to the speaker, and I was hoping I'd be able to check it by getting the instrument pack to pieces. Fingers crossed...

There are 4 clips around each plug socket ad well...

Ah, see, I was suspicious of that, as it still seemed pretty well held in there, but how do you get those to release? Is there a trick?

HI Ian.
I have some photo's somewhere in my pc I will try to find them out for you, maybe Peter will have told you by then but if I can remember right I am almost sure you need a thin blade screwdriver to release the clips ?
