Default Heart Missed a Beat - Young Drivers Antics Last Night

Well last night we had most of the family round for dinner, awaiting my 18 year old student son arriving as he was driving all the way from Perth, I decide to give him a call to see what was holding him up.
His answer on the phone, ......Dad, Dad get here quick, Ive rolled the car.
He was only 4 miles from home and on a familiar road.
I arrive on the scene in pitch dark and find that he's OK thank goodness, if a little disoriented and he was probably wandering what my reaction was going to be.
Gathering personnel items from an upside down car in the darkness in a muddy field is not very nice, a very memorable night to say the least one which I hope is never repeated.
This morning I arranged with the farmer to roll the car onto its wheels and pull it to the near the gate in the field. Tommorrow I'll arrange for the scrappy to pick it up. We are not going to claim anything from insurance as the premium will go through the roof. Im glad it is just the car that we are talking about here.
One less litle Rover on the road though, you were a cracking wee car all the years that we owned you, I'm sad to see you go. RIP 214iS.

Glad to hear your son's okay despite what must have seemed a rather serious accident.

I know when I had to tell my Dad I'd crashed his car once I was petrified at what he might say to me, but luckily he was relatively understanding... I learnt from my mistake and have never tried to powerslide in the snow since.....

Nice to know your son is fine It doesn't really matter about the car if he is in one piece

Good car, saved him from injury. For a rolled vehicle that has come out remarkably intact. Proper bit of British hardware.

Not nice, but we all do daft things when we are young.

Not a nice sentence to hear on the phone but glad all are fine.
How long had yo owned the 214 for? It looked as though it was a very clean example too & sad to see another gone! What happened?

My father drilled this sentence into me at an early age, and it has kept me out of the ditches for years...
