In todays press it is stated that the house will be demolished and that the owner will be compensated by the full market value (said to be £135 (?)) The compensation, and their hotel bill, will be paid for by the Police Authority.

Isn't there still in existence a criminal compensation fund which might be more appropriate? Tom

According to BBC the house is a council owned property and the tenants have been rehoused. I presume some compensation for the disruption will be forth coming for the hapless tenants.

In 2005 there was a truly horrific murder about 2 minutes from my house, involving axes, mincers and cross bows and bits under the patio, the forensic people were there for a few weeks and it was boarded up for 7-8 months afterwards.
When it was eventually put up for sale there was no problems at all selling and to give the estate agents some credit, it was the first thing mentioned to people inquiring about it, both sets of neighbours left within 18 months, both said they could got over hearing things the night it happened but thinking nothing of it. http://www.4ni.co.uk/news.asp?id=41679 One side sold there house at a huge loss just to be out of there, neither had slept a full night since it happened and relatives just stopped visiting so much, grandkids wouldn't stay etc.

I have witnessed the results of quite a few horrific murders that would equal or even surpass the tragic events at the house in Margate.
I cannot think of one property where they have occured, where the property has had to be pulled down, because a tenent, or other buyer could not be found. I lived for a while in a house where the previous owner had been brutally murdered in the front room.(the killer has not been found) Didn't bother me at all. I do feel very sorry for the tenants of the house as all this must be a great shock to them. They should be duly compensated as they are also victims of this crime. Russ |
