Normally it's only the studs that break or fly off never to be seen again.

The rest of the panel should come off easily.

The corners shouldn't touch anything. You just have those little plastic holding clips to press in. ( carefully. )

Be careful, the ends are quite brittle and it can be a bit of a faff, take your time, I got a replacement from a scrappies and ended up breaking one end off
and don't lose the plastic studs, they tend to pop off and disappear when you loft the panel off, masking tape over the top helps.

Stick a length of parcel tape across the clips. They will stay on the panel when they pop out of the retainers, rather than ejecting into oblivion.

Avoid levering the scuttle in cold weather, it's less liable to snap.

Yes indeed, so if you avoid levering it in cold weather, it's less likely to snap.

Just a heads up for anyone....

There is NO need at all to remove the scuttle clips with a screwdriver... Nearly all the Rovers and ZTs ive seen, they have all been marked around the clips where some monkey with an axe or something has tried to remove them.

Best method is a plastic trim removal tool between the GLASS and the scuttle, to just get your fingers in, and firmly and quickly pop it off by yanking it away from the screen.... Repeat going along the scuttle. The rivets remain untouched and virgin (as much as they can be). Of course you want to apply the pressure as close to the rivet as possible, then there is almost no chance of any breakages. Infact most of the rubber seals are such a pathetically poor fit, you can get your fingers in at the ends where the rubber trim does not go all the way across the whole screen, and slide along to the desired location, and pull... and voila.

If you are careful and get the technique right, you wont snap anything. ive done scuttles in Sub Zero, and they have all been fine so far (touch wood anywhere in the vicinity!)

The scuttle is acutally quite a "loose" fit to the screen, its not really what you would expect, but hey ho, its Rover after all...

HI Ross.
There is a void around the scuttle clips for them to be prised up to release them from the fixings which you can see in this post/link below if done carefully no marks would be made on the scuttle panel.
