Default High Pressure Fuel Pump broke

Been looking at a car that was towed by RAC who diagnosed high pressure fuel pump failure.
Basically the guy said his car just cut out and stalled.

I've read a lot about the intermittent cut outs with the diesels so maybe I could get hold of one cheap if the guy selling it has no idea that he could solve it by filling it up.
So going off the RAC diagnosis, is it an expensive job to replace the HP fuel or is there more to it.

Still reading stuff about cut outs on these so learning more all the time.
